    Description

R A R E  and virtually impossible to find is this DOORS Platinum award of their 1967 debut album
    THE DOORS.
    Their breakthrough hit,
    Light My Fire
lit up 40-million TV screens on the Ed Sullivan show and became an iconic Jim Morrison hit and a Jim Morrison slap in the face of Ed Sullivan when he refused to change the line  "...Girl,  we couldn't get much higher,"  to Sullivan's insistence of,  "...Girl,  we couldn't get much better."   For that transgression,  Sullivan banned the Doors from his show and cancelled their subsequent SIX appearances for future shows.  Morrison said,  "...So !  we already did the Ed Sullivan show."   That was Morrison,  who's drinking and drugs destroyed one of the greatest rock groups of all time in just a few years.  He died of alcohol and drug O.D. at 28,  following in the footsteps of the same era's  Janis Joplin and Jimmie Hendrix.
But to-date,  though the latest RIAA Certified award is only a Diamond 4X  for 4-million album sales (IN THE U.S.),  an estimated 20,000,000 albums have been sold worldwide and
    THE DOORS
is listed at #42 on Rolling Stone's
500 GREATEST ALBUMS OF ALL TIME
    .
This award was made by my father,  Kenneth A. Kittinger,  who passed at age 91, in 2016,  but was the premier GOLD & PLATINUM awards maker for 50 years on Music Row and for Rock & Pop labels in LA and NYC.  He also made awards for the Beatles and the Rolling Stones for London labels,  Apple and others.
