Description
RES-Q Infant Wedge and Sling (Patented and trademarked) (Patent #US 6,931,683 B1)
Sling (bought at 75$) available free with the wedge.
The RESQ Wedge is a class 1 medical device designed by an occupational therapist, a physician, and a dietitian in response to head molding and shoulder retraction issues they were seeing in babies.
RES-Q Infant Wedge (which stands for R= reflux symptoms, E= Ear infections, S=Sleep disturbance, Q=Quick relief)
The first reversible, orthopedically designed reflux wedge on the market
One side is designed for your baby to be on his back and features a nest that cradles and secures your baby, limiting wake-ups from "startling". The unique design of the tummy side is shaped similar to a mother's chest and is especially critical for preemies, babies with moderate to severe reflux or apnea syndrome babies that spend a great deal of time on a wedge, although all babies can benefit from these hard to obtain sleeping positions.
The orthopedic design of the wedge encourages less external rotation and abduction of the infant's hips and helps to disburse pressure around the back of the skull for improved head molding.
You can use the RES-Q Wedge inside a crib, a pack-n-play, or set it directly on the floor.
The RES-Q Infant Wedge/Sling is designed to allow babies 0-12 months with musculoskeletal issues associated with reflux to rest comfortably in a semi-upright position; it can be used in both supine and prone positions. Thewedge is constructed at a 30° angle for tummy time and a 35 – 45 degreeangle for back-lying, which is recommended to help overcome problems due topoor muscle coordination and lack of lower esophageal sphincter function. The RES-Q Infant Wedge is currently available in hospitals and for privatehome use. The wedge/sling allows babies to achieve a restful sleep state.Parents will also appreciate the benefits of a well rested infant.
The cover is a super soft medical grade vinyl that can be easily wiped down and the denim sling is machine washable.
Studies being performed and documented in a hospital NICU in Spokane, Washington show observations for premature infants using the RES-Q Wedge are: improved reflux symptoms, increased oxygenation, decreased episodes of apnea, decreased incidence of bradycardia (slow heart rates), deeper sleep states, improved musculoskeletal alignment and shorter hospital stays.
Infants can rest in a tummy lying position on the top side of the wedge and in a back lying position (recommended by the SIDS alliance) when the wedge is turned over to the 'nest' side.
Back support is essential for an infant to develop proper musculoskeletal alignment. Poor positioning can cause tightness of neck extensors, shoulder/scapular retraction, low back extension, hip abduction and external rotation. The orthopedic design of the RES-Q Wedge addresses all of these issues and allows a shoulders forward posture and relaxed neck on both sides of the wedge.
Place your baby inside the diaper portion of the sling. The sling should befastened with the Velcro (as snug as a diaper) under the baby’s armpits.
The RES-Q wedges is used from birth to appox. 12 months, it can hold upto 25 lbs.
I spent over 330$ including shipping from the US.
The item is in excellent condition. The attachable sling(Large size) included with is also available for free along with the wedge.
