Up for auction is the original authentic 1932 Mailbox from "Jim Morrison's Last Known U.S. Residence."
The mailbox is comprised of 2 pieces, the box and the lid.
The mailbox was recently removed from Jim's private staircase leading to his unit 8216 1/2 where it has been for the past 87 years to comply with a Notice of Violation issued by the City ordering the staircase to be demolished and re-built.
This is the private mailbox where he and Pam received mail.
Photos show original staircase prior to repair and photos taken during the renovation process. You can see the mailbox clearly to the right of the multi-color tile stairs in the one demolition photo when you enlarge it and you can see after it was removed in the other demolition photo.
This landmark building "Cheri Amour"
is where Jim was living with his longtime girlfriend, Pamela Courson, from 1968-1971. It
holds a cultural and historical significance to all Doors fans worldwide as it is his last and only U.S. home that is open to the public
as a widely sought after tourist attraction and the only U.S. mock "grave" for Jim in the Memorial Garden of the courtyard.
